LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech has dismissed freshman defensive back Nigel Bethel II from the team following an incident at a campus recreation center.
Tech spokesman Blayne Beal says Bethel was let go for "his role in an incident at the Texas Tech Student Recreation Center" on Saturday. No further details were provided by the school, but Sunday's statement from Beal says the athletic department "has a zero tolerance policy on this type of behavior."
Texas Tech campus police say no narrative would be provided until Monday.
Bethel ranked 43rd on Rivals' Top 50 prospects in the 2014 classes of Florida's high schools. The 5-foot-8, 168-pound Bethel was a star cornerback at Booker T. Washington High School in Miami.
