FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A 95-year-old Arkansas man has set a national record for his age group in the 100-meter breaststroke.
The Southwest Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/1nURZq1 ) that Fort Smith resident Bud Jackson broke a 16-year-old U.S. Masters Swimming record in the 100-meter breaststroke recently in Bentonville.
Competing in the 95-99 age division, Jackson completed the race in 3:16.56. That shattered the previous record of 3:38.45.
Jackson, who swims three to four times a week, says taking part in U.S. Masters Swimming doesn't mean someone has to be a masterful swimmer. He says the idea behind Masters swimming to get people interested in health and fitness.
Jackson also says he knows his new record won't last forever. He says someone will come along and break it eventually.
