PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated Gerrit Cole from the 15-day disabled list, and the right-hander is slated to start Saturday against the New York Mets.
Cole, who was the first overall selection in the 2011 draft, had been out since June 4 with right shoulder fatigue. He is 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 12 starts.
Right-hander Brandon Cumpton was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis despite going 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA in five starts in June. Overall, he was 3-2 with a 4.61 ERA in nine starts.
