ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Proud Vixen beat stablemate Buckingham Bull by 2 1/4 lengths Friday in the $58,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani and trained by Vladimir Cerin, the 4-year-old Proud Vixen ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.78 and paid $13.40, $4.80 and $5.40 for her second victory in 12 career starts.

"She's got a lot of heart," Cerin said. "She's been trying to beat Buckingham Bull for a long time and she finally did it today. They've been stablemates for quite a while and they both try very hard."

The filly earned $34,800 to push her total to $97,790.

"She's finally coming into her own and she ran a big race," Nakatani said. "Vladimir had her spot-on today."

Buckingham Bull returned $4.80 and $3.80, and Melanistic paid $7.60 to show.

Heavily favored Sweetrayofsunshine, off at 4-5, was third at the rail passing the half-mile pole, but was shuffled back to last into the far turn and was eased late.
