NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are closing with tiny gains after a late-afternoon turn higher, but still ended the week with a loss. The Dow closed up six points to 16,851. The S&P 500 index was up four points to 1,960. The Nasdaq composite rose 19 points to 4,397. The Dow and S&P 500 ended the week slightly lower. The Nasdaq gained.
UNDATED (AP) — The price of oil is holding steady on a quiet day for energy markets. Benchmark U.S. crude for August delivery edged 10 cents lower to close at $105.74 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, a benchmark used to price international oils, rose 9 cents to close at $113.30 a barrel in London. The average retail price of gasoline nationwide held steady at $3.68 per gallon.
NEW YORK (AP) — Nestle USA is recalling 10,000 cartons of Haagen-Dazs chocolate peanut butter ice cream because the packages are mislabeled. The list of ingredients describes chocolate chip ice cream and does not say the package contains peanuts. That could create a hazard for people with peanut allergies. The recall affects 14-ounce cartons of ice cream with a best-by date of May 13, 2015.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration is approving a long-delayed inhalable diabetes medication to help patients control blood sugar levels. The FDA cleared MannKind Corp.'s drug Afrezza, a fast-acting form of insulin, for adults with the most common form of diabetes, which affects more than 25 million Americans. Afrezza is designed to be inhaled at the start of a meal.
DALLAS (AP) — Brazilian plane maker Embraer is telling airlines to inspect pins or bolts that hold the engines on its twin-engine E190 regional jet. An Embraer spokeswoman says the company sent a service bulletin to airlines as a preventive measure, and calls the action routine. The E190 has between 98 and114 seats.
