WASHINGTON, D.C. — Utah’s cherry cobbler became the first repeat winner of the Taste of America competition Wednesday.

The champion, which was determined by a bracket-style voting challenge, was announced at a reception before the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity. The event was attended by representatives from each of Utah’s House and Senate offices.

“Maine’s lobster roll and Maryland’s crab cakes finished a strong second and third, but could not overcome the collective sense of determination and state pride from the Utah congressional offices in the final week of voting,” a statement from CQ Roll Call reads.

This is the fourth year Roll Call has hosted the Taste of America competition, which pits foods with ties to each state against each other to determine a national favorite. Utah’s cherry cobbler first won the challenge in 2012.

The cherry is Utah’s official state fruit, and the Dutch oven is the official state cooking pot. The National Restaurant Association, a sponsor of the competition, recommended The Roof Restaurant at Temple Square as the best place to try the state’s winning dish.

The other competitors in the final round of online voting were Iowa’s bacon, Illinois’ deep dish pizza, Maine’s lobster, Maryland’s crab cakes, Kentucky’s fried chicken and North Carolina’s barbecue.
