RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno man appealing his conviction for murdering his wife and trying to assassinate the judge handling their divorce in 2006 told one of his lawyers at the time he believed he was justified in shooting what he called a "corrupt" judge. The comments were in a memo recently added to exhibits Darren Mack attached to his latest federal appeal claiming he received ineffective counsel.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police shot and killed a woman who broke into a room at a short-term apartment and attacked another woman with a knife. Deputy Las Vegas Police Chief Kirk Primas said three children, all under the age of 5, were also in the apartment early this morning at the Manor Suites. The children were not hurt. The woman who was attacked was treated at the scene.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas attorney plans to seek a hearing before the Nevada Supreme Court in an effort to keep from being disbarred. Three justices have temporarily suspended Brian Bloomfield after he pleaded guilty to his role in a scheme to fake court documents showing that defendants had completed court-ordered counseling and community service.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Reno police sergeant has been placed on restricted duty after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI over the weekend. Reno police say 46-year-old Paul Sevcsik was arrested while he was off-duty Saturday night. Sevcsik bailed out of the Washoe County Jail. He could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
