HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — Officials say about nearly 1,000 people have gathered in in forests outside Salt Lake City for an annual counterculture gathering.
The U.S. Forest Service says in a statement Wednesday that 920 attendees have arrived in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest for the annual Rainbow Family gathering.
Forest service officials say the attendees have broken themselves up into tribes and set up kitchens, parking and gathering areas.
The attendance is expected to swell to about 10,000 people in advance of their July 4 celebration.
Officials arrested one woman earlier this week after police say she stabbed a man with a knife at a campsite.
The gathering is centered on peace and nonviolence.
