Crockett, Sain receive Peyton Manning Scholarships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Alex Crockett of Jamestown and Cody Sain of Medina are the 2014 recipients of the University of Tennessee's Peyton Manning Scholarship.

The Manning Scholarship is given annually to incoming first-year students already selected into the school's Haslam Scholars program. The scholarships were presented Monday at a ceremony featuring Manning, chancellor Jimmy Cheek and provost Susan Martin.

Crockett is a valedictorian from the Alvin G. York Institute in Jamestown. He was local chapter president of the National Honor Society and a state 4-H president. He also founded Students Helping Students, a peer group assisting underprivileged students.

Sain is a graduate of Humboldt High School. He was a 4-H member, a Boys and Girls Club mentor and a Tennessee Teen Institute peer leader. Sain also ran cross-country and track.
