SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker is questioning why the state is one of only 13 in the nation that tax the Social Security benefits of elderly residents. State Sen. Todd Weiler says he intends to pursue legislation that would grant a state income tax exemption — at least for low-income retired residents. The Woods Cross Republican says he was unaware of the policy until an elderly person in his district brought it to his attention.
