RENO, Nev. (AP) — Top Nevada Democrats have urged the party faithful to gear up for the November elections, saying voters will face a clear choice. State Democratic Chair Roberta Lange told delegates on Saturday that the party will fight for an economy that works for everyone and Republicans will fight to protect a system rigged for billionaires such as the Koch brothers. Speakers expressed support for legislation to raise the minimum wage and to extend federal unemployment insurance.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A group has filed an initiative petition with the secretary of state's office to expand background checks to nearly all gun sales in Nevada. Nevadans for Background Checks, which filed the petition Friday, must gather 101,667 signatures by Nov. 11. If the group does so, state lawmakers then would vote to approve or reject the petition in 2015. If rejected, the measure would go to Nevada voters in 2016.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A community that has mourned two slain Las Vegas police officers gathered again to remember a man who died while trying to stop the shooting rampage. Nearly 400 people attended a memorial service yesterday in Las Vegas for 31-year-old Joseph Wilcox. He was fatally shot at a Wal-Mart after Jerad and Amanda Miller killed Officers Igor Soldo and Alyn Beck at a nearby pizza shop minutes before. Wilcox saw the shooters at the Wal-Mart on June 8 and pulled out his legally concealed gun to stop them, but was shot by Amanda Miller.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Steve Rossi, one half of the prolific comedy duo Allen & Rossi, which became a favorite of "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other TV variety shows, has died at age 82. His friend of 40 years, Michael Flores told The Associated Press yesterday that he visited the pal who introduced him to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in hospice care Friday, and he was weak from cancer of the esophagus that had spread but wasn't in any pain.
