UNDATED (AP) — Argentina has advanced to the knockout round of the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Iran. Lionel Messi scored the lone goal in stoppage time to give Argentina the win. Germany can all but wrap up a spot in the knockout round with a win over Ghana in a Group G match today.
SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Jamie McMurray will start tomorrow's NASCAR race in Sonoma, California, from the pole. He grabbed the top spot by edging AJ Allmendinger late in qualifying. McMurray earned the pole with a lap at 96.350 mph in the final minute of qualifying. Allmendinger wound up second and, in a surprise, Kyle Larson was third to give Chip Ganassi Racing two cars in the top three.
LONDON (AP) — French Open runner-up Simona Halep (HAL'-ehp) says she is ready for the start of Wimbledon on Monday. She has been recovering from a right shoulder muscle injury that forced her to withdraw from a tune-up tournament this week. The Romanian is seeded third for Wimbledon.
GLENVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Kirk Triplett and John Inman share the early clubhouse lead during the second round of the Champions Tour Encompass Championship. Each stands 10 under par after back-to-back 67's.
SPIELBERG, Austria (AP) — There's a surprise pole sitter for tomorrow's Austrian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa earned the pole, his first since 2008, with Williams' teammate Valtteri Bottas posting the second-fastest time. The Austrian Grand Prix marks the first time this season that a Mercedes is not on the front row.
