EPPING, N.H. (AP) — Robert Hight broke New England Dragway's Funny Car time record with a 3.988-second pass Friday night in qualifying for the Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals.

Hight, a four-time winner this season and the series points leads, powered his Ford Mustang to a top speed of 321.58 mph on the final pass of the night.

"That was pretty awesome," Hight said. "We made a nice run the first run. Mike Neff told me going up there we're not going to be cowards tonight. We're going to get after this thing. He honestly figured there were going to be others in the 3s."

Antron Brown led in Top Fuel, Shane Gray in Pro Stock, and Hector Arana Jr. in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Brown raced to the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot with a 3.770 at 323.58, setting a track record for elapsed time during the second session. Brown, the 2012 season champion, has three victories this year.

Gray had a track-record time of 6.485 at 212.79 in a Chevy Camaro, and Arana finished in 6.807 at 195.05 on a Buell.
