UNDATED (AP) — Tiger Woods has announced on his Facebook page that he will play next week at Congressional in the Quicken Loans National, which he hosts. It will be the first time he's teed it up in competition since he's been sidelined by back problems March 9. Woods had surgery March 31 and says he wants to play his way into competitive shape.
CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the negotiations has told The Associated Press the Cavaliers have reached an agreement to make David Blatt their new coach. The 55-year old Blatt has been a highly successful coach in Israel and will become the Cavaliers third head coach in as many years.
SALVADOR, Brazil (AP) — France scored two goals a minute apart in the first half and went on to beat Switzerland 5-2 to earn a second victory in Group E of the World Cup. France has six points and can qualify for the knockout round if Ecuador and Honduras draw later today.
CHICAGO (AP) — Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle has decided to remove Jason Grilli from the closer role after he's blown four save opportunities this season, including yesterday in a win over Cincinnati. Hurdle says Mark Melancon (meh-LAN'-sehn) will get the closers role for now.
NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Rodriguez's lawyer says his client has dropped a lawsuit against a New York Yankees team doctor, who Rodriguez charged didn't tell him an MRI in October 2012 showed the third baseman had a joint tear in his hip. Attorney Alan Ripka says that Rodriguez withdrew his suit to eliminate distractions in anticipation of his return to baseball after his season-long suspension.
