CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — A Venezuelan court has barred an opposition leader from leaving the country.
The government has accused Maria Corina Machado of plotting with the U.S. to oust Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro. Machado denies the allegations.
Earlier this year, Venezuela's National Assembly stripped Machado of her seat after she spoke out against the administration and participated in anti-government protests.
Wealthy, English-speaking Machado has frequently traveled to other countries and criticized Venezuela's socialist administration.
National Assembly president Diosdado Cabello announced the court's decision on state-run television Thursday. Machado's attorney called the announcement irregular, and told The Associated Press that Machado had not been officially notified of the travel ban.
