GARDEN CITY, Rich County — The body of an apparent drowning victim was recovered Thursday from Bear Lake.

Justin Petersen, 37, of Layton, was last seen on the docks of Bear Lake State Park Marina about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Utah State Parks spokesman Eric Stucki said Petersen had just walked off his father's boat and was walking on the dock to his own boat when, for an unknown reason, he fell into about 15 feet of water.

State park officials and Rich County search and rescue crews were contacted about 3 p.m. Thursday. Petersen's body was recovered about five hours later.

Stucki said the investigation into how Petersen fell in the lake was continuing. He said the water temperature of Bear Lake currently is in the 50s.
