SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors have charged former West Valley City police officer Shaun Cowley with fatally shooting an unarmed 21-year-old woman during a 2012 drug investigation. At a news conference yesterday afternoon, West Valley City Police Chief Lee Russo said the investigation has been "a long and difficult road" for the department, which supports Gill's investigation.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The city of Bluffdale says it will no longer work with State Records Committee over the release of public documents. The move came last week after the panel ordered Bluffdale to release documents related to the National Security Agency's data center, but the city attorney says the two events are unrelated. Cities aren't required to use the services of the community.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash of a small plane in the La Sal Mountains in southeastern Utah. The San Juan County Sheriff's office says the pilot was the only person on board and died in the crash. The pilot was identified as 62-year-old Miles Reece of Bayfield, Colorado.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah is planning to set up new private laboratories to speed a backlog in evidence related to rape. A working group told a legislative committee this week that all rape kits should be processed so the DNA may be added to a national database. Lawmakers this year set aside $750,000 toward the effort.
