BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho correctional officials say the upcoming state takeover of a Boise private prison will be seamless. The state will begin running the more than 2,000-bed Idaho Correction Center starting July 1 when the $29 million-a-year contract with the Corrections Corporations of America expires. Warden Randy Blades says transition is 98 percent complete.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A former employee at a south-central Idaho dairy has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of probation after an undercover video shot by an animal rights group showed workers stomping, dragging and beating cows inside a milking barn. The Times-News reports that 40-year-old Javier Victor Rojas-Loayza received the sentence yesterday.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — St. Luke's Health System's request to stay a court ruling that its acquisition of Nampa-based Saltzer Medical Group violated federal antitrust laws has been rejected. The Idaho Statesman reports a federal judge told St. Luke's to immediately release Saltzer from its ownership to avoid harming competitors.
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — A recount has been ordered of last month's close vote by Pocatello residents retaining an ordinance banning discrimination because of sexual orientation or gender identity. The recount is set for June 27 and comes at the request of a group opposed to the city ordinance approved by the Pocatello City Council in June 2013 and backed by voters on May 20.
