JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Tuition at Mississippi's two-year colleges will increase by an average of about 4 percent this fall.
Nine of Mississippi's 15 independently governed community and junior colleges will raise charges on students.
The state Board of Community and Junior Colleges says average tuition will rise to $2,476 annually, up from $2,377 in the 2013-2014 school year.
The increases come even though state appropriations to community colleges showed a healthy rebound in the state budget that begins July 1. The total amount will rise by 4.6 percent, or $10 million, in the 2015 budget. That will push state aid above $250 million, compared to the $216 million that college received in the 2011 budget year.
