MOUNT MORRIS, Pa. (AP) — James Stewart swept the 450 Class motos in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series' High Point National on Saturday for his first victory of the year.
Stewart, riding for Team Yoshimura Suzuki, has 20 career 450 Class victories.
"I was excited about coming this weekend because we made some good improvements on the bike," Stewart said. "It's been a while since we've had this speed and pace in reserve and I felt comfortable doing it. This track is one of the ones that I've had to overcome, but it was nice to get a win. It's actually the first time I've gone 1-1 in a while, so we'll go back and keep on working and go from here."
Ken Roczen, KTM rider coming off consecutive victories in Sacramento, California, and Lakewood, Colorado, was second overall. He was second in the first moto and third in the second.
Trey Canard was third overall, finishing fourth and second.
Roczen leads the season standings, 16 points ahead of Ryan Dungey and 22 ahead of third-place Stewart. Dungey was fourth overall, finishing third and fourth in the motos.
"I didn't get a start both motos and that makes it tougher, but I felt like I was riding good," Roczen said. "It's about keeping it consistent. I think I'm going to work on some starts and in a couple weeks we'll bounce back. I just need to get a jump and get up front. I think it will make it that much easier."
Kawasaki's Blake Baggett also swept the 250 Class motos for his second straight event victory.
"The starts don't come easy out there and we're still working on that," Baggett said. "I feel that I should be up front. Those guys are riding great, but I'm going to do what I can to go after the championship."
Yamaha's Jeremy Martin was second overall, finishing second and sixth. He swept the motos in the first two events of the season.
Martin leads the standings, 29 points ahead of Cooper Webb and 36 in front of third-place Baggett.
