SALT LAKE CITY — Solo musicians who have always dreamed of being in a band have a boost with a new competition.

In conjunction with Gigg, artists are encouraged to upload video of them singing or playing any instrument, with hopes of becoming Utah Idol’s first-ever band.

The ambitious project, produced by Vic Deauvono, will take talented individuals and put them together to make sweet sounds together in a newly formed band. There is even a possibility of existing bands being broken up, to create the "dream team" Utah Idol Band.

“There are so many great musicians and solo artists in the surrounding area, we wanted to have a competition to give people an opportunity to express themselves and gather into a new band,” Deauvono said.

The band will play at Stadium of Fire as part of the opening lineup before Carrie Underwood takes the stage. The musicians will also be shooting a music video to be uploaded to YouTube with hopes it will the band will pick up fans and traction online.

“We could do a rock band or a heavy metal band, depending on the voices,” Deauvono said. ”We have so many quality musicians we felt confident we would get someone who would have stage presence, deliver a great song.”

Deauvono and his team have arranged a rock version of “Fly Me To The Moon" for their super-band to perform and they’ve written an original song.

Interested performers are encouraged to upload a clip of them singing or playing to Gigg’s Utah Idol Band page. Those with a big impact — including a lot of views or an undeniable talent — will be asked to audition live June 7.

“What we're really looking for are people who love music and are good musicians,” Deauvono said. “Quality music, and not just a genre of music, but a sense that these people are so talented that they can play different things. They're out there, I've heard several of them, and I'm looking for more.”

Videos are due by June 6.
