COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Police asked for the public's help Monday in finding a 12-year-old girl who had been missing for nearly 24 hours. She was found safe, the police department said in a tweet.

Stevie Shane was last seen Sunday afternoon. Her family said she had a history of running away, but they became concerned when she was gone longer than normal.

Family members contacted police, who then petitioned the public for help in finding her.

Stevie was found late Monday afternoon, according to a tweet from the Cottonwood Heights Police Department.

"Stevie Shane located safe by CHPD detectives. The ATL is cancelled. Thank you," the tweet read.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
