KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Sporting Kansas City defender Chance Myers will have season-ending surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon that he sustained during a 2-2 draw with Montreal on Friday night.
Myers, who was hurt in the 36th minute, will have the surgery Wednesday.
The former No. 1 pick in the MLS SuperDraft has spent the past his entire career with Sporting KC, re-signing prior to this season. He had two goals and three assists while helping the club win the MLS Cup championship a year ago.
Myers said in a statement Sunday that he will work hard "not only to come back from this injury but to come back stronger."
