SOUTH SALT LAKE — Two employees at a food processing plant suffered minor burns Thursday in a fire.
Firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze at Talisman Foods, 3324 S. 200 East, about 8 a.m. Crews fought the fire from the outside of the building until they were able to reduce the flames and make sure the building was stable to enter, said South Salt Lake Fire Battalion Chief Kent Robertson.
By 9 a.m., the fire was under control. A hazardous materials team was called to the scene to investigate the smell of ammonia in the building. Ammonia systems are common in buildings with refrigeration units, Robertson said, but crews were unsure if the smell was the result of a leak.
Two employees suffered minor burn injuries from the fire. Additional crews from West Valley City, Unified Fire Authority and Murray assisted.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.
