WEST VALLEY CITY — Police arrested a fugitive who they say led them on a high-speed chase involving a police helicopter, K-9 units and dozens of officers.

The chase led to a manhunt that rattled a West Valley neighborhood overnight.

Late Tuesday night, a West Valley City police officer tried to pull over a car investigators say was driven by 30-year-old Jason Cameron. The car sped away and police pursued him.

Police say Cameron is a high profile fugitive with a history of violent behavior and a warrant for his arrest on aggravated assault.

A law enforcement helicopter and K-9 units, along with officers from a couple of other agencies joined in the chase, which reached speeds of more than 70 miles per hour on city streets. At one point Cameron drove directly at officers, according to Lt. Kent Stokes with the West Valley City Police Department.

The chase ended near 4400 West and 3600 South when two people abandoned the car and ran inside a house.

“"Eyewitnesses saw them run into this house, so we contained the house and quickly found out it was more probable that he ran in there, rather than at large in the neighborhood,” said Stokes.

Officers surrounded the home until Cameron and a woman with him surrendered.

Police arrested Cameron and Jessica Gerber, who they say was in the car with him. Gerber could face charges of obstruction of justice for harboring a fugitive, according to Stokes.
