BEAVER, Utah (AP) — A 44-year-old Tennessee woman made her first appearance in a Utah courtroom on charges she killed her husband during a domestic dispute at a motel on Interstate 15.
Dorthy Searcy appeared in 5th District Court Monday on a first-degree murder charge.
Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel says she and her 45-year-old husband Reginald were "drifters" who had been in Beaver for about a week after their car broke down.
The Deseret News reports (http://tinyurl.com/pkll5gmthat) deputies responded to the Country Inn about 11:30 p.m. Friday after a 911 caller reported Searcy had been stabbed accidentally.
Noel says Searcy's son and his girlfriend were staying with the couple. He says all four had been drinking and their stories didn't add up. Investigators determined the victim had been stabbed in the chest with a steak knife.
