MESQUITE, Nev. (AP) — The parent company of the Las Vegas Review-Journal has sold the Mesquite Local News and its website to a company that publishes five other community newspapers in rural Nevada and Arizona.

Battle Born Media LLC co-owner Sherman Frederick said Thursday the acquisition in northeast Clark County fits well with company newspapers in Lincoln County, Ely, Eureka and Mineral County in Nevada and Deer Valley in Arizona.

Frederick is former president of Stephens Media LLC and the former publisher of the Review-Journal.

He heads Battle Born Media with AP sports columnist Tim Dahlberg.

The Mesquite Local News publishes on Thursdays.

Frederick says Battle Born Media chief operating officer Kirk Kern will be the Mesquite publisher.

Tom Mitchell, former Review-Journal editor, will be a featured columnist writing about rural Nevada issues.
