SUMMIT COUNTY — Police arrest three people after a vehicle and foot chase Wednesday morning.

The chase was sparked by a vehicle burglary at Kimball Junction and ended in the Jeremy Ranch area, according to Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds.

Police received a report of a vehicle burglary at the Walmart in Kimball Junction at around 5 a.m., according to the Summit County Sheriff's Department. Investigators said they were told the suspects were in a U-Haul van.

A short chase ensued after a deputy spotted the van 30 minutes later, according to investigators. Deputies said they spiked the tires of the van as it entered I-80 and then the vehicle came to a stop when it crashed through a fence onto the frontage road. The three occupants of the van then ran into the Jeremy Ranch area, according to investigators.

Officers notified residents of the situation and asked for them to report any suspicious activities, according to Capt. Justin Martinez. A helicopter from the Department of Public Safety assisted in the search and officers checked vehicles and houses in the area in an attempt to find the man, according to investigators.

Sharli Hoopiiaina, 26, was taken into custody after an immediate search of the area. After an extensive search of the Jeremy ranch area, Jennifer Ramirez, 31, was taken into custody about a mile from where the vehicle was stopped, said Detective Sgt. Ronald C. Bridge or the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies continued to search for the third person, Timothy Arnold, 29, who was eventually taken into custody between Lambs Canyon and East Canyon on I-80.

Arnold had approached a citizen who was stopped on the road in an unrelated accident and used his cellphone. Directly afterward, the citizen contacted police and reported a "suspicious male," Bridge said.

When police arrived, Arnold ran into the thick brush on the side of the road.

"The Summit County bloodhound, Tank, was deployed after an extensive foot chase, and Arnold was taken into custody," Bridge said.

All three were booked into the Summit County Jail on charges related to vehicle burglary, felony evading and outstanding warrants, Bridge said.
