NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a New York City man has been charged with pointing a handgun at two students on a state college campus in the Hudson Valley.
Officials at SUNY New Paltz say a student told campus police that he got into a fight with a man at an off-campus party early Tuesday morning. The student says the man later pointed a gun at him and another student and pulled the trigger both times, but the weapon failed to fire.
Police say they arrested 19-year-old Marquis Bernard of Brooklyn on campus. Officials say he was visiting his girlfriend, who lives in a dormitory. The gun was found in the girlfriend's room.
Bernard is being held Wednesday in Ulster County Jail on $50,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
