BOSTON (AP) — Police in Boston have taken a man into custody in connection with two unattended backpacks left around the finish line of the upcoming Boston Marathon. There's no word on what the backpacks contained. People gathered near that spot today to mark the anniversary of last year's deadly attack. There were tributes today and many of those in attendance walked in the rain to the finish line for a moment of silence.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder will travel to Overland Park, Kan., on Thursday to pay tribute to the three victims of Sunday's shootings outside two Jewish facilities. Holder will attend an interfaith memorial ceremony. Meanwhile, the white supremacist charged in the shootings made his first court appearance today. He faces capital murder and premeditated first-degree murder charges.
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — The police chief in Calgary, Alberta, says today's fatal stabbing rampage by a student at the University of Calgary is the worst mass murder in the western Canadian city's history. Five people at a house party were fatally stabbed. The motive is said to be unknown.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A self-described militia commander from Minnesota charged with stealing identification information from members of his former Army unit at Fort Bragg in North Carolina has pleaded guilty to identity theft. Federal prosecutors say Keith Michael Novak planned to use the stolen information to make fake IDs for members of his militia. A sentencing date has not been set.
ATLANTA (AP) — Fire officials say a report of smoke prompted an evacuation of a Delta Air Lines jet at Atlanta's international airport. A spokeswoman for Atlanta Fire Rescue says crew members could not identify its source and called in maintenance staff. Delta says the smoke was in the cockpit.
