MIAMI (AP) — CONCACAF has fined Mexican club Cruz Azul FC and penalized goaltender Jesus Corona for an altercation involving Club Tijuana following a Champions League semifinal match last Wednesday.
The incident occurred after Cruz Azul's 2-0 victory at the Estadio Azul in Mexico City. Cruz Azul advanced by a 2-1 aggregate score line.
CONCACAF says Tuesday in a release that disciplinary action against Club Tijuana is still pending.
Corona received a fine and an automatic one-game suspension for a red card, and CONCACAF added two more matches to his suspension. It says the additional punishment was "for unsporting behavior, specifically in the use of provocative language and gesticulations employed with the motive of inciting an opponent."
