STEELTON, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania family physician has been temporarily barred from practicing medicine amid claims she failed to properly disinfect equipment and put patients at risk of infection.
The State Board of Medicine said Tuesday that Maryjo Szada's license was suspended after an inspection at her Steelton office.
Inspectors allege Szada used Lysol floor cleaner and Lysol spray to disinfect medical tools, including gynecological equipment, for at least a year and admitted leaving dirty gynecological equipment sitting in a sink for a week.
Investigators said specimens from pap smears and a sexually-transmitted disease test had been sitting around for days and Szada told them she didn't know what patients they belonged to.
A phone message could not be left for Szada on Tuesday because the voice mailbox was full.
