Taking care of unfinished business...Four rainouts tonight
UNDATED (AP) — In a game that featured 10 home runs, it took a single up the middle to decide Pittsburgh's 8-7 win over the Reds in Cincinnati.
The home run binge actually happened last night before rain caused the game to be suspended after six innings. Shortly after the game resumed today, Andrew McCutchen laced a one-out double in the seventh and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Russell Martin's base hit.
Pittsburgh had three sets of back-to-back homers, only the third time that's happened in major league history. Neil Walker and Gaby Sanchez went back-to-back twice, only the second time that's happened in Pirates history.
Elsewhere in the majors:
— Giancarlo Stanton crushed a three-run homer off Stephen Strasburg and tied a career high with five RBIs as Miami ripped Washington 11-2 to end an eight-game losing streak. Tom Koehler allowed one hit and five walks in seven scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.89.
Bad weather has caused the postponement of four games tonight. Rain washed out Tampa Bay in Baltimore, Atlanta at Philadelphia and the New York Yankees' game against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Cleveland's game in Detroit was postponement after the forecast called for temperatures in the low 20s.

MLB officials defends replay
NEW YORK (AP) — The head of baseball's Internet company, which houses the office which controls the instant replay system, says the system is working. Bob Bowman calls by umpires on the field have been confirmed in 33 of 89 challenges and overturned in 30. For 25 others, calls stood because of a lack of "clear and convincing" evidence. In one instance, umpires asked for a video review to check the balls-strike count.
Bowman said he knows the system has "arrived because ESPN is already criticizing us. And it must be great to be perfect the way ESPN is." An ESPN spokesman declined to comment.
Commissioner Bud Selig (SEE'-lig) goes further saying the system has been "remarkable." He wouldn't say whether MLB would make any adjustments during this initial season.

Cards' Ellis activated, Kozma heads to minors
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have activated Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list and inserted him into the starting lineup at second base for Tuesday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Ellis missed the first 13 games of the season with left knee tendinitis.
Light-hitting shortstop Pete Kozma was optioned to Triple-A on Monday night to make room for Ellis on the 25-man roster.

— Rays left-hander Matt Moore will miss the remainder of the season after opting to have elbow-ligament replacement surgery. Dr. James Andrews is to operate next week on the 24-year-old pitcher, who made the AL All-Star team last year.
— Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (peh-DROY'-uh) had a cortisone injection in his left wrist and hopes to return to Boston's starting lineup tomorrow night. The AL MVP was injured April 4 when Milwaukee's Carlos Gomez broke up a double play at second base in the ninth inning.
— The Mets have placed center fielder Juan Lagares (lah-GAH'-rehs) on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled right hamstring and recalled outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (NOO'-ehn-hys) from Triple-A Las Vegas. Lagares was injured while beating out a double-play ball Monday night in New York's 7-3 win over Arizona.

Receiver signs with San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The 49ers have signed wide receiver Brandon Lloyd to a one-year contract. He started his career with the Niners and played with them through 2005. He then spent time with the Redskins, Bears, Broncos, Rams and Patriots before sitting out last season.

Panthers leap over Sabres in draft lottery
TORONTO (AP) — The Florida Panthers have won the NHL draft lottery and the right to the top pick in June.
The Panthers vaulted one spot ahead of the last-place Buffalo Sabres, who had the best odds of winning the lottery. The Oilers have the No. 3 pick, followed by Calgary and the New York Islanders.
The Islanders still have the option of relinquishing their pick to the Sabres as part of a deal that sent Matt Moulson to Buffalo for Thomas Vanek last October.

Orange forward to bolt program for pros... Wolverines lose two to the pros
UNDATED (AP) — The Syracuse men's basketball team is losing another player as sophomore forward Jerami Grant is entering the NBA draft. Freshman point guard Tyler Ennis announced last month that he was going to enter the draft.
The 6-foot-8 Grant started 20 of 32 games for the Orange this season, averaging 12.1 points and a team-leading 6.8 rebounds.
Elsewhere:
— Michigan sophomores Nik Stauskas and Glen Robinson III have decided to enter the NBA draft. The Wolverines lost Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway to the NBA last year as underclassmen, but retooled well enough to win the Big Ten title and advance to an NCAA tournament regional final.
— But there's good news for Michigan State fans. The Spartans 6-foot-5 junior forward Brenden Dawson, who scored a career-best 26 in an NCAA tournament victory over Harvard, says he's returning for Tom Izzo's club for a senior campaign.
— Starting guard Royce Woolridge and reserve center James Hunter have left the Washington State basketball program, while recruit Jermaine Morgan has been released from his letter of intent. New coach Ernie Kent says Woolridge wants to play his final season of college basketball closer to his family in Arizona. Woolridge averaged 7.3 points per game as a junior last season.
— California has hired Tennessee's Cuonzo (KAHN'-zoh) Martin as its men's basketball coach. He replaces Mike Montgomery, who retired last month after six seasons in Berkeley. Martin went 63-41 in three seasons at Tennessee, including a 24-13 mark and an appearance in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament this season.
— Former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian is up and moving around at a Las Vegas hospital and could go home this weekend after suffering a heart attack and contracting pneumonia. Tarkanian's son-in-law, Zafi Diamant, said Tuesday that the 83-year-old Tarkanian was feeling better and has been walking around Valley Hospital. Doctors determined that Tarkanian did have a heart attack.

Tigers hire first female AD
PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — Mollie Marcoux (mahr-KOO') has been hired as Princeton's athletic director, leaving her job as a sports management executive and returning to the school where she starred in two sports.
She succeeds Gary Walters, who said last fall he would be retiring after 20 years. Marcoux is Princeton's first female athletic director since the position was first held in 1941.
For the past 19 years, Marcoux worked at Chelsea Piers Management, which owns sports complexes in New York and Connecticut. She's a 1991 Princeton grad.
FRENCH OPEN-PRIZE MONEY
Increase in the French Open purse
PARIS (AP) — A record amount of money will be available to the world's top tennis players when the French Open starts next month. Officials have announced that the overall purse has been increased to more than $34.5 million from last year, an increase of $4.1 million. The individual winners will each receive just over $2.2 million each.
The tournament begins on May 25.

Red Bull rejected
PARIS (AP) — Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciarod (rih-KAR'-doh) finished second in the season-open Formula 1 race in Australia. Not long after the results were announced he was disqualified for a rules violation and the points he earned were stripped away. Not pleased with the ruling Red Bull appealed to the International Court of Appeals and that appeal has now been rejected.
