PROVO, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a Utah woman accused of killing six babies that she gave birth to over 10 years told investigators that she either strangled or suffocated the children and then put them inside boxes in her garage. According to a probable cause statement released by police, Megan Huntsman said that between 1996 and 2006, she gave birth to at least seven babies at her home and that all but one of them were born alive.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah legislators say they won't override a handful of vetoes from Gov. Gary Herbert. Senate and House leaders released polls revealing that 61 legislators opposed undoing the governor's action on three measures. The vetoed proposals deal with legislative subpoenas, parental review of school curriculum and government fee-assessment areas.
CENTERVILLE, Utah (AP) — A police officer in Centerville, Utah has killed a 39-year-old man said to be suicidal. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Vincent Farrand was killed on Sunday afternoon. Police say Farrand came outside his with a handgun and pointed the gun at the officers, and one shot him dead. The officer who killed Farrand been placed on routine paid administrative leave as authorities investigate what happened.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republicans and Democrats have chosen their nominees for Salt Lake County seats at separate weekend conventions. The Republican county councilman nomination went to Micah Bruner. He is vying to replace Democrat Randy Horiuchi, who is retiring. If Bruner defeats Horiuchi's chosen Democratic successor Jenny Wilson, city council Republicans will hold a veto-proof majority.
