STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Gavin Collins hit an RBI single to cap Mississippi State's four-run 10th inning as the Bulldogs rallied to beat rival Mississippi 6-5 in front of an NCAA on-campus record crowd of 15,586 on Saturday.
The previous on-campus mark — also held by Mississippi State — was set in 1989 when 14,991 watched the Bulldogs sweep a doubleheader from Florida. Saturday's crowd at Dudy Noble Field came less than 24 hours after 13,224 attended the opening game of the three-game weekend series, won by Ole Miss.
The biggest overall crowd in college baseball history came in 2004, when coach Tony Gwynn's San Diego State squad beat Houston 4-0 in front of 40,106 at San Diego's Petco Park.
Mississippi State has hosted the top 11 on-campus crowds in college baseball.
