MILLVILLE, Cache County — A motorcyclist hit by an alleged drunken driver died from his injuries Saturday.
Randolph Wirth, 67, of Millville, was well-known in the community as co-founder of Caffe Ibis. He and his wife created the Logan coffee company in 1985.
Cache County sheriff's investigators say Wirth was at 140 W. 200 South in Millville Thursday evening when he and a Cadillac Deville were hit by a pickup truck.
Wirth was transported to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance, and later airlifted to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden in critical condition. He died Saturday morning, Lt. Mike Peterson said.
Investigators say the accident was caused by Alvin Henson, 40, who witnesses say was driving erratically and lost control of his pickup truck. Neither Henson nor the occupants of the Cadillac Deville were injured in the crash.
Henson was booked into the Cache County Jail and does not have the option of posting bail, Peterson said. Authorities are now looking into vehicular homicide charges as well as DUI charges.
