LONDON, Jun 4, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Women are being auctioned into prostitution at airports across England, Sky News reported Sunday.
The Crown Prosecution Service told Sky News some women are sold into sex slavery immediately upon arrival in England. The auctions are being held in the airports, a sign of what the CPS called an "increase" in criminal activity at England's airports.
Incidents were reported at Gatwick, Heathrow and other airports in England.
Police estimate more than 1,000 women are living in sex slavery in England. Authorities are conducting a nationwide crackdown on sex slavery, encouraging brothel visitors to report any evidence of forced prostitution.
