GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they have charged a teacher at a suburban Albany middle school with stealing more than $100,000 from her union.
Police in the town of Guilderland tell local media that 39-year-old Brenda McClaine of Altamont was arrested Thursday and charged with grand larceny.
Officials say McClaine stole the money during a one-year period ending last October. She was the treasurer of the Guilderland Teachers Association, which is affiliated with New York State United Teachers. NYSUT (NYE'-suht) is the state's largest teachers union.
School district officials say McClaine has been put on paid administrative leave while her case is pending.
She's free on $15,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if she has a lawyer.
Police aren't commenting on whether the stolen money was recovered.
