Tom Callan and KSL TV News reporting Some people who use public transportation want the Utah Attorney General to launch a criminal investigation of the Utah Transit Authority.

Transit riders, who rallied at the state Capitol today, are angry with UTA's decision to eliminate various bus routes and say that UTA deliberately lied about bus ridership numbers in order to funnel more money toward TRAX.

In a statement, UTA admitted an audit found mistakes in the ridership numbers, but said there was no illegal activity involved. And it called the allegations "grossly inaccurate and unfounded."

So far, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has refused demands for an investigation.
