WEST VALLEY CITY — A home was in flames for the second time in 36 hours Tuesday morning as investigators worked to determine what or who caused the blaze.
A passerby saw flames on the roof of a home near 6000 West and 4100 South around 5 a.m. and called 911. The house is vacant while the homeowners remodel, fire officials said.
"When crews got here, it was working really well on the attic. … A lot of smoke and flames were visible," West Vally City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald said.
Crews extinguished the blaze Tuesday morning.
Firefighters had responded to a fire at the same address around 5:45 p.m. Monday. A fire in the home's fireplace was left unattended and the flames spread.
Investigators have now determined neither fire was arson. They said the second fire started either from smoldering insulation or an electrical problem after the power was restored.
Damage was estimated at $80,000.
