PERTH, Australia (AP) — France has provided new satellite images showing possible debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines jet. Malaysian officials say the images "show potential objects" in the same part of the ocean where previous satellite images released by Australia and China showed objects that could be debris from the plane that disappeared more than two weeks ago.
SEATTLE (AP) — Rescue crews have continued working overnight after voices were heard in the debris field of a massive mudslide that killed three people in rural Washington state. Fire officials say people were "yelling for our help." At least six houses were destroyed and several people are hurt. Others have been evacuated due to flood worries.
MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) — Authorities in Colorado say they don't expect to find any survivors after a small plane slammed into reservoir with five people believed to be on board. Officials say the plane was heading from from Bartlesville, Okla., to Montrose, which is about 180 miles southwest of Denver. Recovery work resumes this morning.
McALLEN, Texas (AP) — Crews in Texas are trying to contain a major oil spill in Galveston Bay. A barge carrying nearly a million gallons of especially thick, sticky oil collided with a ship in the bay yesterday, leaking an unknown amount of the fuel into the popular bird habitat as the peak of the migratory shorebird season is approaching. Containment booms have been brought in to help.
PARIS (AP) — Far right candidates are hoping this is their day to make hay as voters cast ballots in round one of municipal elections across France. The voting is taking place in 36,000 French villages, cities and towns for mayors and municipal counselors. It will test the resiliency of France's governing Socialists. Marine Le Pen's anti-immigrant, far right National Front hopes to use the municipal vote to build a grassroots base.
