PROVO — Investigators say children playing with matches set a neighbor's home on fire Friday afternoon.

Three boys between 6 and 8 years old set fire to some bushes in front of the home near 1320 North and 1270 West, Provo Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield said.

A neighbor spotted smoke coming from the bushes about 3:15 p.m. and alerted the occupants of the home, who were able to evacuate safely before the flames spread to the house. Firefighters from three stations put the blaze out in about 20 minutes, Schofield reported.

No one was injured in the fire, which damaged three rooms of the house and caused an estimated $60,000 damage.

Investigators interviewed the boys, who witnesses saw near the home before the fire occurred, and the children admitted to igniting the blaze, police said. They will be referred to the Provo Fire & Rescue Youth Fire Setter Intervention team for evaluation and education, Schofield said.
