CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — It's Mathematics Education Week in New Hampshire.

Gov. Maggie Hassan's proclamation Monday at the New Hampshire Teachers of Mathematics annual spring conference highlights the importance of providing students with a strong education in math to help them succeed.

The proclamation notes the state Education Department has approved an elementary mathematics specialist certification and that the University System of New Hampshire has an initiative to double the number of science, technology, engineering and mathematics graduates by 2025.

The conference is taking place at the Grappone Center in Concord.
