SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah Senate spokesman says Senate Majority Leader Ralph Okerlund is improving a day after he collapsed at a leadership meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Senate Chief of Staff Ric Cantrell says Okerlund is tired but cheerful and is undergoing tests at a local hospital. Senate staff and Okerlund's legislative colleagues have said he had a "medical event," but they haven't released further details.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 20-year-old Mormon missionary is dead after a fatal fall in Micronesia. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says Miller Edward Toa of Layton, Utah, died yesterday. Toa was nearly halfway through his two-year mission in the Guam area of Micronesia that he began in April 2013. The area he was serving includes the nations of Guam, Palau, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A measure to set early restrictions on law enforcement's use of drones is on its way to the governor. The House voted 67-5 yesterday to approve the bill, which the governor can choose to sign or veto. Proponents of the measure warn that restrictions are needed as drone technology evolves and becomes more common.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Senators have approved a proposal to study whether Utah should continue to observe daylight saving time. The Senate voted 25-2 yesterday to send the measure to Gov. Gary Herbert for a signature or veto. Garland Republican Rep. Ronda Menlove is sponsoring the bill, which she says gives those with opinions about the practice an opportunity to voice their concerns or support.
