SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City police say they believe a pregnant woman who vanished 12 years ago was killed.
Police said Wednesday they are now calling the missing persons case of Aletha Jo Williams a homicide case. Williams was 25 years old and six months pregnant when family members reported her missing in May 2002.
Salt Lake police detective Cody Lougy says they have also identified a person of interest, though he declined to identify the person or explain his relationship with Williams.
The reclassification of the case came after a witness came forward and gave investigators new information. They have been searching motor homes, houses and business for evidence.
Police also recently did a ground and air search near the Jordan River in search of a body or DNA.
