AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A crowd at the South By Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas, has been given some advice on protecting their privacy, from NSA leaker Edward Snowden.

Speaking by video conference from Moscow, Snowden offered advice on how Americans can keep their web-surfing activities more private by using a free service called Tor that encrypts web traffic. And he called on the technology industry to create more services that help guard individual privacy.

As for his leaking of documents exposing the government's surveillance methods, Snowden says he felt "the Constitution was violated on a massive scale."

The former NSA contractor is living in temporary asylum in Russia. He faces felony charges in the U.S. after revealing the agency's mass surveillance program by leaking thousands of classified documents.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (ah-SAHNJ') addressed the same conference in a similar manner on Saturday. He's living in asylum at Ecuador's embassy in London.
