DENVER (AP) — Colorado Avalanche forward Paul Stastny will miss the game Monday night against the Winnipeg Jets because of a balky back.

Coach Patrick Roy said after the morning skate that he hopes Stastny can return to the lineup on Wednesday against Chicago. The 28-year-old Stastny is scheduled to see the team doctor later Monday.

Stastny suffered back spasms following his first shift on Saturday against Central Division-leading St. Louis. He didn't return to the game. Stastny is one of the team's top offensive threats with 20 goals and 27 assists this season.

With Stastny sidelined, rookie Nathan MacKinnon will take over at center on a line that also will include captain Gabriel Landeskog and Jamie McGinn.
