T25 BASKETBALL-SCHEDULE
Shockers remain perfect
UNDATED (AP) — Wichita State has become the second team in NCAA Division I men's basketball history to open a season with 34 straight wins, and the first since UNLV in 1990-91. The Shockers did it by winning the Missouri Valley Conference title game, downing Indiana State 83-69.
Fred VanVleet scored 22 points for the Shockers, while tournament MVP Tekele Cotton drained four 3-points to finish with 20 points. VanVleet scored 13 points in the final six minutes and was named to the all-tournament team along teammates Cleanthony Early and Cotton.
In other top 25 action:
— The fifth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers were upset by Maryland 75-69 in overtime as Seth Allen scored five of his 20 points in the extra session. Dez Wells finished with 18 points in the Terrapins' final home game as a member of the ACC before leaving for the Big Ten.
— No. 7 Syracuse snapped a two-game losing streak with a 74-58 win over Florida State. C.J. Fair led the way with 22 points for the visiting Orange, who had lost 4 of 5 after starting the season 25-0.
— Nebraska's hopes for an NCAA tournament berth received a huge boost with a 77-68 home win against ninth-ranked Wisconsin. Shavon Shields and Terran Petteway scored 26 points apiece as the Cornhuskers won for the 10th time in 12 games to clinch fourth place in the Big Ten, their highest conference finish in 16 years.
— No. 17 Saint Louis snapped a three-game losing streak with a 64-62 win over Massachusetts. Jordair Jett scored on a driving layup with three seconds left to give the Billikens the win. Jett finished with 17 points, including the Billikens' last six of the game.
— LaQuinton Ross scored 22 points and Aaron Craft added 12, to lead Ohio State past No. 22 Michigan State 69-67. Keith Appling's jumper with two seconds left was off the mark for the Spartans, who failed to score over the final 4:30 as Ohio State scored the game's final four points.
NBA-SCHEDULE
Heat lose in Chicago
UNDATED (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder have lost their share of the NBA's Western Conference lead following a lackluster defensive performance in Los Angeles.
Jodie Meeks scored 24 of his career-high 42 points in the second half as the Laker surprised the Thunder 114-110. Meeks was 11 of 18 from the field and 14 for 14 at the line while becoming the third player to reach the 30-point mark this season for Los Angeles.
The Thunder fell a half-game behind the Spurs despite Kevin Durant's triple-double of 27 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Serge Ibaka (ih-BAH'-kah) had 21 points and 15 boards for Oklahoma City.
Also in the NBA:
— Joakim Noah (JOH'-keem NOH'-ah) had 20 points and 12 rebounds and D.J. Augustin added 22 points as the Bulls outlasted Miami 95-88 in overtime at Chicago. Dwyane Wade (dwayn) scored 25 for the Heat, who got a poor offensive performance from LeBron James and dropped their third straight to match their longest losing streak of the season. James finished with 17 points on 8-of-23 shooting.
— Miami remains 1 ½ games off the Eastern Conference lead following Indiana's fourth straight loss, 105-94 at Dallas. Monta Ellis and Devin Harris scored 20 points apiece for the Mavericks, whose bench outscored the Pacers' reserves 41-4.
— Houston picked up its fifth straight win as James Harden scored 41 points and Jeremy Lin had 26 in a 118-113 overtime win against Portland. Harden hit a three-pointer in the waning moments of regulation before hitting another three during an 8-2 in OT.
— Golden State was a 113-107 winner against Phoenix as David Lee paced the Warriors with 26 points and nine rebounds. Klay Thompson went 4-for-6 from 3-point range and finished with 22 points in the Warriors' fourth consecutive victory.
— Toronto picked up its ninth victory in 11 games as Kyle Lowry recorded his fourth career triple-double in the Raptors' 111-104 win over Minnesota. Lowry finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, while DeMar DeRozan added 25 points and Steve Novak hit five 3-pointers for the Atlantic Division leaders.
— Marcus Thornton came off the bench to score 27 points on 11 of 15 shooting as Brooklyn hammered Sacramento 104-89. Thornton was 5 of 8 from 3-point range in helping the Nets pick up their fifth victory in six games.
— Jeff Green poured in 27 points and Rajon Rondo (RAH'-zhahn RAHN'-doh) had 18 assists in Boston's 118-111 win against Detroit. Kris Humphries added 20 points and 11 rebounds to the win.
— Anthony Davis tied his career high with 32 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked six shots in New Orleans' 111-107 win against Denver. Tyreke (ty-REEK') Evans had 20 points for the Pelicans, who trailed by 16 at one point before winning their third in a row.
NBA-WARRIORS/CURRY
Curry bogged down by quad strain
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry says he will play limited minutes for the foreseeable future because of a strained right quad.
Curry says an MRI on his quad revealed the strain. He says he injured his quad during Golden State's win at Boston on Wednesday and began to feel pain again during Friday's win over Atlanta.

Hawks end mini skid...B's pass Pens
UNDATED (AP) — There are new leaders in the NHL's conference races following victories by the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins.
The Blues surrendered a 2-0 lead in the third period before T.J. Oshie (OH'-shee) and Alexander Steen scored shootout goals in a 3-2 triumph at Minnesota. St. Louis failed to score in regulation after Oshie and Carlo Colaiacovo (koh-lee-AH'-koh-voh) tallied in the game's first 8 ½ minutes.
Brian Elliott finished with 17 saves as the Blues moved one point ahead of Anaheim in the West and stayed four points ahead of Chicago.
The Boston Bruins have picked up their fifth straight win to regain the Eastern Conference lead, one point ahead of Pittsburgh.
Torey Krug snapped a 1-1 tie while sparking the Bruins' four-goal third period in a 5-2 triumph at Florida. Patrice Bergeron (pah-TREES' BEHR'-zhur-ahn) and Jarome Iginla (ih-GIHN'-luh) later tallied 52 seconds apart to make it 4-2 before Chris Kelly capped the scoring.
The Blackhawks had dropped two straight road games before Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews (tayvz) scored in a 2-1 triumph at Buffalo. Toews snapped a 1-1 tie early in the third period and Cory Crawford finished with 20 saves in his 12th consecutive start.
The Hawks beat the Sabres for the fifth straight time and improved to 3-3 since the Olympic break.
Elsewhere on ice:
— Jeff Carter scored twice and had an assist as the Los Angeles Kings doubled up Edmonton 4-2 to run their winning streak to seven games. Alec Martinez and Trevor Lewis also scored to support Jonathan Quick's 25-save performance.
— Henrik Lundqvist earned his 300th NHL victory and 49th career shutout in the New York Rangers' 3-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Chris Kreider scored twice for the Rangers, who completed a three-game season sweep of the Red Wings and won their second straight since an 0-2-1 skid.
MLB-DODGERS
L.A. names first two pitchers
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Clayton Kershaw and Hyun-Jin Ryu (hee-YUHN'-jihn YOO) will be the Dodgers' starting pitchers in their two-game season-opening series in Australia against the Diamondbacks. The games will be played March 22-23 at Sydney Cricket Ground. For Kershaw, it will be his fourth straight season-opening start for Los Angeles.

New York releases Cromartie
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have released cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who was entering the final year of a four-year deal and was scheduled to cost the Jets' cap $14.98 million this season. The 29-year-old is coming off perhaps his worst season as he struggled with a hip ailment while continuing to play as the Jets' No. 1 cornerback.
NASCAR-LAS VEGAS
Keselowski cashes in on Earnhardt's misfortune
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Brad Keselowski has won NASCAR's Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, surging ahead on the final lap when Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran out of fuel.
When Earnhardt's Chevy slowed in the final miles, Keselowski roared past in his Penske Ford for the first weekend sweep in his career. He followed up Saturday's Nationwide Series victory with his first Vegas Cup win.
Keselowski virtually assured himself of a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship after missing it entirely last season. Earnhardt finished second for the second straight week after opening the season with a win in the Daytona 500.
Paul Menard was third, followed by pole-sitter Joey Logano and Carl Edwards.
GOLF-CADILLAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Reed holds on
DORAL, Fla. (AP) — Patrick Reed won the Cadillac Championship for this third PGA Tour title in seven months. He shot an even-par 72 for a one-shot victory over Bubba Watson and Jamie Donaldson of Wales.

Lions' owner passes away
DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford Sr., who helped steer Ford Motor Co. for more than five decades, has died at the age of 88.
The company said in a statement that Ford died of pneumonia at his home. He was the last surviving grandson of company founder Henry Ford.

World mark for U.S. relay team
SOPOT, Poland (AP) — The U.S. 4X400 relay team has set a new world indoor track record at the world indoor meet in Poland. The winning time for the four sprinters was 3 minutes, 2.13 seconds, which shaves .70 off the 15-year-old record set by another U.S. relay team at the 1999 world indoors.
