SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department's gang unit continued Sunday to sort out the details of a possible weekend shooting.
Officers were called to the area of 1250 West and 1600 South just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday on a report of multiple shots fired, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Josh Scharman.
By the time police arrived, all parties were gone. Several witnesses on scene gave detectives useful information, Scharman said.
Shell casing were recovered at the scene and police were investigating a report that a nearby house was struck, he said.
A 17-year-old who appeared to be a victim was driven to his house by friends and then to a local hospital by a relative, Scharman said. Murray police were called, who in turn called Salt Lake police to see if the victim was related to their case.
Those who were allegedly with the victim at the time of the shooting have not been cooperative, he said.
As of Sunday, Scharman said it was still undetermined whether the boy's injury was due to a gunshot. He said the injury was minor.
Investigators continued to look for the two groups that allegedly were involved in a confrontation prior to the shooting. The alleged gunman is described as a male Polynesian who is either an adult or in his late teens, about 6-feet tall and was last seen wearing a brown jacket.
The gang unit was investigating the incident although it had not been confirmed Sunday whether the shooting was gang-related.
