IPFW coasts past IUPUI 85-47 in Summit opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Luis Jacobo scored 19 points and Steve Forbes added 11 with nine rebounds as No. 2 seed Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne rolled past seventh-seeded Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis 85-47 in the opening round of the Summit League tournament Saturday night.

IPFW (23-9) shot 57.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Jaguars 39-23. Mo Evans finished with 13 points, Joe Edwards chipped in 10 and Jacobo had seven boards.

IUPUI (6-27) was limited to 21-of-51 shooting (41.2 percent) and went 3 of 14 from deep. Mitch Patton scored 18 points and Ian Chiles contributed 12.

Leading 18-16, the Mastodons pulled away with a 22-6 run to close the first half. Evans and Michael Kibiloski each sank 3-pointers during the run, helping IPFW grab a 40-22 halftime advantage. IPFW coasted in the second half, pushing their lead to 30 on a Forbes three-point play with 9:27 remaining.

IPFW advanced to the semifinals on Monday.
